
Dr. Ray Wasielewski is a licensed and board-certified joint replacement surgeon practicing in Columbus, Ohio. He specializes in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery, including the muscle-sparing 2-incision total hip replacement and quad-sparing total knee replacement.
Dr. Wasielewski's accomplishments and surgical acumen have been recognized worldwide. He has been rated as one of the "Best Doctors in America" and is a member of the prestigious American Orthopaedic Association (honor society of orthopaedics) and one of only seventy-five worldwide members of the Knee Society. As a member of the AAHKS (American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons) MIS Taskforce, he has helped develop their position statement on minimally invasive and small incision joint replacement surgery (download statement). In addition to performing over 500 hip and knee replacements each year, Dr. Wasielewski lectures nationally and internationally on his research. He has authored many articles and book chapters and is an invited editor of multiple orthopaedic journals.
He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he was selected as the Outstanding Senior in the College of Engineering before graduating in 1981 with a BS and in 1982 with an MS in materials engineering. He attended medical school at the Ohio State University from 1982 to 1986 and received residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Pittsburgh Presbyterian Hospital. After finishing his residency in 1991, Dr. Wasielewski did a joint reconstruction fellowship with the world-renowned Dr. Jorge Galante at Rush Presbyterian, St Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. In 1993 he was appointed director of joint reconstructive surgery at the Ohio State University Hospitals, and he was the acting chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1999 and 2001.
Dr. Wasielewski is currently the director of Minimally Invasive Orthopedics, Inc. He is also the director of orthopaedic research at Grant Medical Center and has a faculty appointment at the University of Tennessee (adjunct professor of biomechanical engineering). Owing to his engineering and surgical background, Dr. Wasielewski consults extensively with industry leaders on implant design.
