Muscle-Sparing THA Animation |
No muscles, tendons, or ligaments are cut during muscle-sparing two-incision total hip replacement (these structures are cut during traditional total hip replacement). Muscles, tendons, and ligaments are merely separated or avoided. The surgeon accesses the hip joint through two small incisions (1½ to 2 inches) rather than one large incision (10 to 12 inches), yet uses the same implants. Because the incision is smaller and muscles, tendons, and ligaments are not cut, recovery is faster and less painful with this cutting edge procedure.
*Incision size is influenced by a patient's weight, bone size, and severity of arthritis.
